Jakarta, IO – The Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka announced that an Indonesian citizen identified as DU died during the unrest that swept Bangladesh on Monday (5/8).
“DU died after inhaling too much smoke because the hotel he was staying at was torched during the riots. DU just arrived in Bangladesh on August 1 on a business trip,” an article posted on Kemlu.go.id read on Tuesday (6/8).
Indonesian Foreign Ministry (Kemlu) has contacted the victim’s family in Indonesia to convey condolences and assistance to repatriate his body, in collaboration with the company where the victim worked.
With regard to the security situation in Bangladesh, Kemlu and the Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka urged Indonesian citizens in the South Asian country to increase their vigilance, avoid crowded places and protest sites, as well as follow the contingency steps as directed by the embassy.

Indonesian citizens who have plans to travel to Bangladesh are also advised to postpone their trip until the security situation is conducive. In the event of any emergency, they are advised to immediately report to the local authorities and the embassy via the hotline (+880) 1614444552. (bp)
