Jakarta, IO – Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Hermono said the torture suffered by Zailis, a 46-year-old Indonesian domestic worker at the hand of her employer in Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur, was very severe and vicious.

“When we received the report, the Police Attaché and I immediately went to see the victim at Selayang Hospital. Indeed, her condition was very bad, and my conclusion was that she has been viciously tortured,” said Hermono in Kuala Lumpur, Antara reported on Tuesday (6/9).

He continued that based on the scars on her body, the torture has been ongoing for a long time. “On her back, there are scalds. Her hand was broken, and it wasn’t a new fracture, but from three months back,” said Hermono.

Compared to when she entered Malaysia and started working in 2019, her weight has dropped to 30 kg. Zailis, who hails from Binjai, West Sumatra, was also barred from communicating with her family in Indonesia. According to Hermono, even when her arm was broken, Zailis was not allowed to see a doctor for treatment and told to keep working.
