Jakarta, IO – Songwriter Andy Stone, who also wrote the song ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ for Vince Vance & the Valiants in 1989, is suing Mariah Carey.
In Andy’s lawsuit filing to the New Orleans court, he asked for compensation of at least US$20 million or around Rp288 billion from Mariah, her co-writer, and Sony Music Entertainment for copyright infringement, CNBC Indonesia reported on Monday (6/5).
Andy claimed that although the two songs had different lyrics and melodies, the defendant had illegally exploited her popularity and unique style, and created confusion by recording new versions of the song without his permission.
