IO – The Party of Functional Group (Golkar) targets wins in upcoming 2024 elections; 60% of votes in all regions has caused Chairperson of Golkar Party, Airlangga Hartarto to “whip” the banyan tree cadres. As one of the first steps to win the 2024 election he commanded all cadres of the Golkar Party to work hard to succeed in the 2020 election. “The main prerequisite to winning the 2024 election is to win the 2020 election,” Airlangga said during the Submission of Golkar Party DPP Decision Letter for Candidates Head of 2020 Regional Election in the Golkar DPP Office, Jakarta, Sunday (07/12/2020).

He stated the solidarity and cohesiveness of cadres to win the candidates carried by the party is a joint gamble. All Golkar cadres have discussed the strategy to achieve victory in the 2020 elections, and he hoped the strategy can win the election later. According to him, politics is about winning and losing, not profit and loss—and many things can be done to win. “The target of winning is 60 percent. All elements of Golkar must be solid, united to win the candidates in their respective regions,” said Airlangga.

Although the strategy to win regional elections in various regions has been prepared, Airlangga is aware that the coming election is going to be carried out in a new era, the New Normal, with the COVID-19 pandemic not yet abating, and must be taken seriously early on. “This is a long process, I hope it can be undertaken together,” he conveyed after submitting 156 decree letters to prospective regional heads in the 2020 elections.

Furthermore, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs stressed that the Golkar Party will always nominate its best cadres. Therefore, Golkar appointed these candidates without a “political dowry”. As is known dowry is an obstacle for candidates to continue to the election in this country. Therefore, to get the best regional head candidates, Airlangga confirmed that Golkar did not ask for a dowry for the candidates. “Because, if you later win, this is the capital for the election,” said Airlangga.

Because of this, he asked for the solidity of all Golkar Party cadres to be manifested. “All DPRD leaders must be loyal to the Party’s decision,” Airlangga said. On the same occasion, the former Minister of Industry advised members to remain solid in maintaining the running of government in their respective regions. He explained that economic recovery is the key to freeing Indonesian people from a prolonged crisis. “In the face of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, all regions are challenged to be creative in developing the economy,” he concluded. (Dan)
