IO – Agnez Mo’s claim of not having “real” Indonesian blood has caused controversy. Agnez stated that she had a mixture of German, Japanese, and Chinese blood in a BUILD Series interview uploaded November 22, 2019.

Agnez responded to the controversy by uploading a cut from a video interview with presenter Kenny Kevin on her Instagram account, Tuesday, November, 26. She also added wrote the caption,

“I grew up in such diverse culture. Culture inclusivity is what I stand for. ‘Bhinneka Tunggal Ika’ means ‘Unity in Diversity’. Love it when I can share something about my roots n’ my country. I will always be honest and testify to the world how a minority like me was given a chance to have dreams and pursue our dreams. My heart is full. . .”

The video received support from her friend Daniel Mananta. “Culture inclusivity! That is Indonesia! It is so cool that Indonesia is talked about continuously in American pop culture with Agnez! Not many people can do that,” wrote Daniel through his account @vjdaniel.

Agnez has also just released her new single “Na Na NA” which she originally composed seven years ago. “I think I first wrote it when I first arrived in L.A.,” said Agnez Mo in the interview.

The bop-mid tempo song was deemed Agnez’s best work. At the time, Agnez only wanted to write things relating to love, so she saved “Na Na NA”.

“But I through the fans deserved to hear it, I also deserved it, because it was like my little baby. So, we finally decided to release it,” said Agnez Mo. (rp)
