Jakarta, IO – Indonesian Graphic Designers Association (ADGI) was re-appointed by the Indonesian Government as a strategic partner in the visual identity design project. Previously, ADGI partnered with the Government in creating visual identities for Indonesia’s 71st to 77th Independence Day anniversary, the G20 Summit, the 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship, the Asian Games and projects for several ministries. Through a direct mandate from the State Capital Authority (OIKN), the Government appointed ADGI to design a visual identity for Nusantara, the new capital city (IKN).

“As a professional association that officially accommodates the graphic designer profession in Indonesia, ADGI supports the Government by inviting all ADGI graphic design members to participate in contributing their concepts in designing a visual identity for our new national capital, Nusantara,” said Ritchie Ned Hansel, the 2023-2026 ADGI Chairman.

ADGI’s participation in designing the new capital’s visual identity aims to show how graphic design can make a real contribution to social, cultural and societal aspects in Indonesia, which aligns with ADGI’s vision to form a strong Indonesian visual identity, domestically and internationally.

“Based on ADGI’s vision to jointly create a healthy Indonesian graphic design industry, ADGI applies a curatorial process based on CVs and portfolio review instead of a design competition in the new capital city’s visual design effort,” explained Ritchie.

Previously, ADGI assisted the Government in designing visual identities for several state initiatives, such as the 71st to 77th anniversary of Indonesian Independence Day, the G20 Summit, the 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship, Taman Ismail Marzuki and several other ministries. ADGI hopes that the Government will have a deeper understanding of the role of graphic design in every sector.

“A design is intended to shape a better life for society. Historically and politically, designers help communicate various issues, such as trends, tolerance, environmental sustainability, ideology, beliefs and national identity.

Therefore, graphic design can contribute significantly to social, cultural, economic, and societal development in a country,” said ADGI Advisory Board Member Diaz Hensuk. (des)
