Accident at Jakarta-Bandung HSR construction site kills 2 and injures 5


Jakarta, IO – The track laying machine at Jakarta Bandung High-Speed Railway (KCJB) derailed at Campaka village, Padalarang, West Bandung on Sunday (18/12) around 4 p.m. WIB, reported Detik.

The train shot out of the rail by about 200 meters, lying on the ground with its locomotive on the left side of the track covered with tarpaulin and cordoned off with police lines.

PT KCIC corporate secretary Rahadian Ratry confirmed the incident but said construction of other parts of the projects like stations, track ballast and subsystem are still being carried out according to the established procedures and schedules.

Meanwhile, National Police spokesperson Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo said a team from the central forensic laboratory (Puslabfor) has been dispatched to the site to investigate the accident in coordination with the National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) and relevant ministries/agencies.

“According to the latest update, 2 people have died and 5 seriously injured,” he said.

He said the police are questioning 18 witnesses to find out the cause. He also said the investigation might involve external parties.

“The investigation is still ongoing. Police, with the help of experts from KNKT and PT KAI, are still working to identify the cause of the accident. If necessary, we will involve external parties including the manufacturer of the train to ensure a fully comprehensive investigation results,” he said. (rr)
