Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) previously predicted that NasDem would lose a lot of votes, especially in eastern Indonesia, if it nominates Anies Baswedan. SMRC research director Deni Irvani said support for NasDem has decreased since it was reported that the party was warming up to Anies a few months ago.
According to him, one of the reasons behind this opposition is the profile of voters in Eastern Indonesia, where the majority are non-Muslim. Anies, on the other hand, has been close to Islamic groups.

“Support for the NasDem Party in eastern Indonesia has plunged from 10.8 percent in May 2021 to 3.9 percent in August 2022,” he revealed. (un)
