Jakarta, IO – An ancient art and science that originated in Chinese culture, Feng Shui involves arranging buildings, objects, and spaces within an environment, to create harmony and balance. The Chinese generally access this wisdom to determine optimal placing, to bring good fortune.
Feng Shui consists of the words Feng, meaning “wind” or “direction”, and Shui, which means “water”. A Feng Shui expert is often consulted during building construction or house arrangement. According to Pinhome, this ancient science has played a part in life for 6,000 years.
One prominent technique is “Home Feng Shui,” a systematic study of the flow of energy in a house, and whether it radiates positive or negative energies, depending on the direction of placement of the house, the position of its doors, its overall structure and the arrangement of furniture. Independent Observer has compiled an overview for readers, compiled from various sources.
Direction
To determine an optimal layout of a house, it is vital to work from the cardinal directions (south, east, west, north, southwest, northeast, and so on) from the outset, as they represent different calculations; it is believed that its placement will affect each house differently.
Placing of the main entrance
When a house is correctly sited, then placing the main door and everything else will follow along easily. Conversely, an inauspicious direction of a house will affect the placing of the main entrance and other elements. After determining a direction, placing the main door is the next most important aspect, as it represents a person’s “mouth” allowing all good and bad things to be taken in. The main door is believed to strongly influence positive energy in the house.
Placing the bedroom door and other elements
When the main door has been placed correctly, the next task is to set the bedroom doors, after which the remainder of the elements follow: the bed, the working desk, and the stove. These elements are crucial, as residents will spend considerable time in the areas with those objects. A bed, for instance, would normally be occupied for 6 to 8 hours a day, as would a working desk.
Feng Shui consultant Rezza Anggara highlights the importance of placing the essential elements of a home, as it will also positively affect the people living in it.
“When you place the elements correctly, you will have a nice house and harmonious family. Business, income, and financial management will go well. You will even have wonderful children,” explained Rezza.
On the contrary, a negative house arrangement will affect and destroy routine of the household. “We rest at home. We work about 8 to 12 hours a day and spend the rest of the time at home, about 6 to 8 hours. So the energy that radiates from a house can affect your finances and business,” Rezza added.
A house with poor Feng Shui can trigger household problems such as infidelity, domestic violence, disharmony, and lack of understanding between family members. Incorrect placement of doors and beds can also lead to frequent illness and arguments over financial matters.
Three methods to generate positive energy
Feng Shui provides a map for charting positive and negative energy, using its instruments. Different tools are employed for imperial and classical Feng Shui. There are three approaches to improving this map:
Changing the building’s structure.
Fix the inauspicious door. Replace the wrongly-placed bed, stove, and working desk. Repositioning these elements is easy, with an affordable investment. What will cost more is to change the building’s structure, as that is expensive.
Adding decorations
Adding decorations, including paintings, clay pots, and iron ornaments can help filter out negative energy. However, this method can only reduce around 70 percent of negative energy and does not completely solve the problem.

Employing Imperial Feng Shui
Imperial Feng Shui was trusted and used by emperors as a guide during the Qing Dynasty. It works by placing various crystals in a royal palace. The Feng Shui crystals have been used since 1612 and have proven effective to this day. The relics of Emperor Qianlong are now limited in number, indicating that those who understand Feng Shui are willing to spend billions of rupiahs to buy crystals with proven benefits.
“They understand how crystals may transform a person’s life. Let alone, Imperial Feng Shui is a lifelong investment. We can pass it down to our children and grandchildren. Unlike houses that require changes every 20 years, crystals have no age limit,” he concluded. (nhn)
