Jakarta, IO – As many as 580 elected members of the House of Representatives (DPR) who will hold office from 2024-29 were sworn in. They will carry out legislative, supervisory and budgeting functions for the next five years.
The inauguration was held today (1/10) in the plenary session at the Parliament House, Senayan, Jakarta. It was also attended by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and President-elect Prabowo Subianto and cabinet ministers.
DPR secretary general Indra Iskandar read out the presidential decree. Then the lawmakers took the oath of office guided by the Supreme Court (MA) chief justice Muhammad Syarifuddin.
Although dominated by familiar faces, there are also many new faces, especially public figures and celebrities, including Nafa Urbach from NasDem Party, Denny Cagur and Once Mekel from PDI-P, Verrel Bramasta, Uya Kuya and Sigit Purnomo from PAN and Melly Goeslaw and Ahmad Dhani from Gerindra.

Musician Ahmad Dhani received the most votes (134,227) in East Java I electoral district, according to CNBC Indonesia. Although it has yet to be determined which commission he will join, Dhani said he will fight for the aspirations of Indonesian musicians. “My main duty is to better the Indonesian music industry,” said Dhani.
