2019 Bogor Street Festival Cap Go Meh; Beautiful wealth for archipelago

IO, Bogor – The holding of the Bogor Street Festival Cap Go Meh (BSF CGM) took place on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 in Bogor, West Java. This event took place from 17:00 to 22:00 WIB.

Arifin Himawan, Chair of the BSF CGM 2019 explained that there were 45 performers from studios, communities and community organizations, 27 carnival participants, 18 performers at the Suryakencana and Hotel 101 stages, involving 1,000 arts and cultural actors. “Various venues were provided so that public can watch performances such as dances, folk entertainment, culinary tours, music, choirs of Angklung and short film screenings,” he said.

Cultural parade participants included Drum band Pusdikzi, Hadroh, Lighting, FADE IN, Indian Culture Parade, South Sulawesi Kipas Dance, Nacha San Thay Zhe, Tainan City, Reog Singo Ngumboro, Ponorogo, Wayang Landus Ciamis, Dipokersen, Kota Bogor, Barong Keket Bali, Ngarot, Indramayu, Komunitas Kawanua, Ratha Yatra Train, Harekrisna Cisarua Bogor Community, Ogo-Ogoh Pure Bumi Natha Shakti, Brimob Resimen 2, Pelopor, Kedung Halang Bogor, KPUD Bogor, and Pawai Seni Liong-Barong.

One of the most distinctive performances at the Cap Go Meh celebration is the lion dance. There is a special habit for the Chinese people when they observe the lion dance: they will be happy to give angpao to the lions they meet by inserting it directly into the lion dragon’s mouth.

The Mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya, said that every year the Cap Go Meh celebration in Bogor City is always packed in the form of a people’s party. According to him, cultural values ​​and elements of local wisdom are always presented when organizing this event. Bima said, the Bogor City Government considers that Bogor Street Festival is an art and cultural activity that has become a continuous event. He considered the richer the calendar of tourism events in the city of Bogor, the better for the economic development of this rainy city.

The 2019 Cap Go Meh folk party this time was wrapped in a new concept, namely a lighting show. Arifin Himawan said that the packaging of the lighting show will begin with a cultural and carnival performance from a number of studios, communities wrapped in the “Katumbiri Lighting Festival” theme. According to him, the meaning of the lighting performance art illustrates that Bogor is able to provide “beauty in diversity”, united in cultural packaging. The spirit, according to Arifin, is in line with the spirit of the Cap Go Meh people’s party that embodies diversity, forming beautiful wealth for the archipelago.

“With the diversity offered, ranging from activities, culinary, diversity in togetherness, I think Bogor Street Cap Go Meh Festival (BSF CGM) can be included in the Ministry of Tourism’s Calendar of Event and also an international calendar of events,” said Rizki Handayani, Deputy Marketing Development Division I, Ministry of Tourism.

“We support the event that unites all citizens regardless of their ethnic, racial, religious and other backgrounds, but with the spirit of Indonesianism,” said Kang Emil, the familiar name of the West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, who also opened the event. (Yoga Agusta)
