12 convicts who sympathized with ISIS pledge loyalty to NKRI

Jakarta, IO – They swore an oath of allegiance to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) by the Quran in Central Java, Friday (10/2). They also read out the state ideology Pancasila and kissed the national flag.

Yuspahruddin, head of Law and Human Rights Ministry’s office in Central Java explained that they were members of the Jamaah Anshorut Daulah (JAD) network affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militant group.

“Many of our inmates were convicted on terrorism charges. Now they have repented and pledged allegiance to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” Yuspahruddin said, reported CNN Indonesia, Friday (10/2).

“They also conveyed their commitment and promised to disown the Amir or his leadership,” he said.

Before making their pledge, they took part in deradicalization program by the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) under the supervision of the National Police’s counterterrorism squad Densus 88 at Karanganyar and Slawi Penitentiary Centers. (un)
