106 Kramat Street, witness of the birth of Youth Pledge

Jakarta, IO – Sie Kong Lian’s boarding house is located at 106 Kramat Street. The white building with a colonial-era architecture is witness to the rise of Indonesian youths who came together to declare the Youth Pledge on October 28, 1928. In this house, the national anthem Indonesia Raya was first played by WR Soepratman using a violin.

After Independence, Prof. Mr. Sunario sent a letter to then Jakarta Governor Ali Sadikin requesting that Sie Kong Lian’s house be designated as historic building.

After being restored by Jakarta Provincial Administration on May 20, 1973 the Youth Pledge Museum was inaugurated by Governor Ali Sadikin. On October 28, 2021, Yanti Silman, the granddaughter of Sie Kong Lian, donated her grandfather’s house to the state.

The museum is open every day except Mondays and major holidays, from 08.00-16.00. Entry ticket for adult is Rp2,000 while children Rp1,000. (Reko Alum)
