10-year Art Jakarta Fair, a new dimension of Indonesian art

IO, Jakarta – Art Jakarta 2018 is back in Indonesia on August 2 to 5, 2018 at the Ritz-Carlton Pacific Place Ballroom, Jakarta, which was inaugurated by the Head of the Creative Economy Agency (BEKRAF) Indonesia, Triawan Munaf. This special event marks the 10th anniversary of Art Jakarta’s journey since it was held in 2009. As a prestigious art exhibition Art Jakarta brings together collectors, art dealers, artists, connoisseurs and artists by combining art and lifestyle.

In the opening ceremony, Triawan Munaf expressed his appreciation for the implementation of Art Jakarta 2018.

“BEKRAF Indonesia fully supports and is proud to work with Art Jakarta which has become a joint art exhibition and at the same time this year we celebrate 10 years of success in honoring the work of local and international artists, as well as being an inspiration for creative homelanders to improve the creative economy sector as the backbone of the national economy, “said Triawan.

This year Art Jakarta presented a new dimension of Indonesian art, the idea was poured through a program between Mall Art by Faisal Habibi, a public art exhibition in collaboration with Pacific Place Mall, Creative Art Class by Genara Art Space: a workshop to provide insight into the world of art a form that can be followed by visitors ranging from children to adults, Creative Art Talk with selected topics such as ‘Korean Art Now’, ‘How to collect Art Photography’, ‘Art in Music Composition’, ‘Art in Music Video’, and ‘How to become a collector (by BEKRAF)’; 10 for 10 namely the installation with the concept of a 10-year museum show Art Jakarta from leading artists, Art Unlimited initiated by BEKRAF with a special presentation for young artists, special performances from the Flying Balloon Puppet Show and Pasar Purnama by Sasikirana, Gold / Glory from Thinking Room, Find Your Light a special installation from Meliantha Muliawan for Lancom Genfique, and Japan Art Now featuring the latest 10 Japanese artists in conjunction with 10 years of Art Jakarta.

“Art Jakarta proves that Indonesia can be a place to meet actors and art lovers who are recognized in the homeland and abroad so that they can inspire new collectors and bring this art exhibition into a leading art in Asia,” Paramita Soedarjo, Jakarta Head of Committee Art 2018.

In addition, at the Art Jakarta 2018 event this time, visitors were able to enjoy Art Gram , the Instagram personas with a display of art nuances from NAFA, Yogya Biennale, Museum & Educational  (MACAN, Ciputra Artpreneur Museum, SCAD, and Erudio School of Art), Gallery installations including Gajah Gallery, ROH Project, Mizuma Gallery, RUCI Gallery, and gallery of AGSI members; Metamorphosis by Ay Tjoe Christine, Solo Show Botero by El Museo / Fernanda Pradilla from Spain / Columbia; Art Carpet charity auction for the Jakarta Mitra Museum Foundation, and a campaign program from the Indonesian Heart Foundation. Visitors were also able to appreciate enjoy more than 1,000 works of art from 300 artists and 51 galleries.

“The enthusiasm of the art lovers and performers keeps surging up every year, it can be seen from the increasing variety of 2018 Art Jakarta art works that can be applauded by visitors ranging from beginners to senior collectors. For the past 10 years, Art Jakarta has become a platform for potential young artists. We present a variety of artworks for both adults and children to understand and foster interest in art as early as possible,” said Ria Lirung as Deputy Head of Jakarta Art Committee 2018. (Aldo)
